About Me
I am a full-stack developer from Germany, living in Valencia, Spain.
How did I get here?
Linux
In 2015 as a Math undergraduate I spent hours wrangling with Linux, having to reinstall it multiple times when I thought I had completely messed things up. My "laptop" at the time, an 2012 Asus Netbook eeePC (akin to the 1001P), was a tiiiny bit under powered and Windows was gruelingly slow. This got me into trying out Ubuntu in the first place. I remember having to deal with Alsa and Pulseaudio issues. It was a pain and more than once did my music blast out loud in the library because I had forgotten to run alsactl restore after plugging my earphones in. I didn't know any better back then; an LLM would have come in handy to answer all my open questions. I like to tell myself that going through those experiences helped me become a better problem solver - at the very least it helped me appreciate the complexity and the incredible fortune of the existence of open-source software.
Mathematical Algorithms
At the University of Bonn I learned to compile my first C programs, implementing things like merge-sort and numerical integration. I was fascinated, and it excited me more than proving lemmas or theorems, and so I took a couple of Computer Science courses alongside as electives. In those I learnt the basics of object-oriented programming and got in contact with reinforcement learning during a course on the fundamentals of robotics - the very same course that allegedly Sebastian Thrun attended.
I collaborated for the first time using Git and GitHub during a programming project on implementing the Navier–Stokes equations to simulate fluid dynamics, a bonding experience between me and mihailescum, and we are good friends to this day.
On The Job
Of course, most progress is made when you have a real-world problem to solve - with real-world customers and real-world expectations. So most of my practical knowledge has been acquired at the various teams that I have had the opportunity to be part of.
After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree, I did several internships (Data Scientist at DHL; Full-Stack Software Developer in Singapore) and then worked throughout my Master’s program (Computer Science at Freie Universität Berlin) as a working student in various companies, from corporate through scale-up, start-up and spin-off.
Since graduating in 2022, I have been working as an Applied AI Engineer (i.e., Full-Stack Software Engineer with AI focus) at Workist, a document processing SaaS company based in Berlin.
